List of building blocks
Building blocks control how the actions of an automation or a script run. For example, they wait, repeat steps, or choose between steps. In the editor, you find them under Blocks when you add an action.
Browse the list below, or use the search box to find a building block by name or description. For an introduction, refer to Building blocks in automations and scripts.
Making decisions
These building blocks decide which steps run next, or whether the automation or script continues at all.
-
Choose
chooseRun the first group of actions whose conditions are met. -
Condition
conditionContinue the automation or script only if a condition is met. -
If-then
ifRun actions only if conditions are met, and other actions if they are not. -
Stop
stopStop the automation or script, optionally with a response or as an error.
Repeating steps
These building blocks run the same steps more than once: a set number of times, once for each item in a list, or until a condition is met.
-
Repeat for each
repeat_for_eachRun a group of actions once for each item in a list. -
Repeat multiple times
repeat_countRun a group of actions a set number of times. -
Repeat until
repeat_untilRun a group of actions until conditions are met. -
Repeat while
repeat_whileRun a group of actions as long as conditions are met.
Waiting
These building blocks pause the automation or script: for a set time, until a template is true, or until a trigger reacts.
-
Wait for a template
wait_templatePause an automation or script until a template is true, with an optional timeout. -
Wait for a trigger
wait_for_triggerPause an automation or script until a trigger reacts, with an optional timeout. -
Wait for time to pass (delay)
delayPause the automation or script for a set time.
Running steps together
These building blocks group steps, so they run one after the other or at the same time.
-
Run in parallel
parallelStart several actions at the same time. -
Run in sequence
sequenceGroup actions that run one after the other.
Variables
These building blocks store values that later steps can use.
-
Define variables
variablesSet variables that the next steps of the automation or script can use.
