The Xbox integrationIntegrations connect and integrate Home Assistant with your devices, services, and more. [Learn more] allows you to connect Home Assistant to the Xbox Network.

About Xbox Network

Xbox Network is Microsoft’s online gaming and entertainment service for Xbox consoles and Windows PCs. You can use Xbox Network for multiplayer gaming. It offers social features like friends and parties, cloud saves, and digital game purchases. Xbox Network also provides access to apps and online services. The platform connects players, manages profiles, and powers online functionality across the Xbox ecosystem.

How you can use this integration

The Home Assistant Xbox integrationIntegrations connect and integrate Home Assistant with your devices, services, and more. [Learn more] lets you monitor and control Xbox One (and newer) consoles and also keep track of your favorite friends on Xbox Network. It exposes your console’s status and activity, and provides friend-related presence and activity information you can use in dashboards and automations.

Prerequisites

  • You must sign in with a non-child Xbox account (age 18+).
  • To enable the media player and remote entities, make sure remote features are turned on in Settings > Devices & connections > Remote features on your Xbox.
  • Home Assistant connects to Xbox Network via OAuth2 using Home Assistant Cloud’s account-linking service. To use this, your configuration.yamlThe configuration.yaml file is the main configuration file for Home Assistant. It lists the integrations to be loaded and their specific configurations. In some cases, the configuration needs to be edited manually directly in the configuration.yaml file. Most integrations can be configured in the UI. [Learn more] must include either cloud: or default_config:.

Configuration

To add the Xbox integration to your Home Assistant instance, use this My button:

Xbox can be auto-discovered by Home Assistant. If an instance was found, it will be shown as Discovered. You can then set it up right away.

Manual configuration steps

If it wasn’t discovered automatically, don’t worry! You can set up a manual integration entry:

You can find Product IDs using the Developer Tools > Events tab and listening to the call_service event. In a new browser tab, navigate to the media browser for your console and click on an App/Game to see the product ID in the event.

Manual OAuth2 configuration

Warning

These steps are not required, nor will they be supported if issues are encountered.

If you prefer not to use the Home Assistant account linking service, you may manually configure a local implementation if your instance is exposed externally over HTTPS using the following steps:

  • Register a new application in Azure AD
    • Name your app
    • Select “Personal Microsoft accounts only” under supported account types
    • For Redirect URI, add: https://my.home-assistant.io/redirect/oauth
  • Copy your Application (client) ID for later use
  • On the App Page, navigate to “Certificates & secrets”
    • Generate a new client secret and save for later use

You may then add the credentials to Application Credentials and then setup the integrationIntegrations connect and integrate Home Assistant with your devices, services, and more. [Learn more].

I have manually disabled My Home Assistant

If you don’t have My Home Assistant on your installation, you can use <HOME_ASSISTANT_URL>/auth/external/callback as the redirect URI instead.

The <HOME_ASSISTANT_URL> must be the same as used during the configuration/ authentication process.

Internal examples: http://192.168.0.2:8123/auth/external/callback, http://homeassistant.local:8123/auth/external/callback.

Data updates

This integration syncs with Xbox Network every 10 seconds.

Troubleshooting

The Xbox integration relies on an active internet connection to communicate with Xbox Network. If you encounter issues, verify that your network connection is stable. The Xbox Network service itself may also experience downtime. This can be unexpected or due to scheduled maintenance.

When reporting an issue, please enable debug logging. Restart the integration. As soon as the issue reoccurs, stop debug logging again. The debug log file will download automatically.

Removing the integration

This integration can be removed by following these steps:

To remove an integration instance from Home Assistant

  1. Go to Settings > Devices & services and select the integration card.
  2. From the list of devices, select the integration instance you want to remove.
  3. Next to the entry, select the three dots menu. Then, select Delete.
